Baby loss, grief, Life after loss

The silent birthday

Another year, another birthday,
Still there is no sound.
No presents ripping open
No giggles from the fun.
No parties full of dancing,
Or gathering around.
No last minute dash for things we forgot,
No need to shop at all.

The silence of your birthday,
It really is quite loud.
An empty, stark reminder,
Of all the things that should have been,
A three year old today,
We wish you could have stayed.
We’d surround you with our kisses,
And smother you with love.

Still we celebrate without you,
The same as every year.
You may not be here with us,
But we know you’re never far.
So happy birthday up in heaven,
I’m sending you my love.
We miss you now and always,
Our special Winter Bear.
